Confirmation: For confirmation 6th class will been learning about the gifts, the beatitudes and the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation will take place on Thursday 19th of March at 5pm in the Sacred Heart Church in Carndonagh. Bishop McKeown will be confirming the children. We would like to wish 6th class well in their preparations.

Parents from 5th class are asked to help serve the tea for after the confirmation. Please let the school know if you can help in any way.

Grandparents Mass: As part of Catholic School’s week the sixth class students brought their Grandparents to celebrate Mass in the school on Friday 31st January. We would like to thank all the Grandparents who made it for the Mass to celebrate with the children. It was much enjoyed by all the children but especially by the children of 6th class who enjoyed refreshments with their Grandparents after the Mass. Many thanks to the Parents committee for their help in serving the tea.

Soccer: The girls and boys league is currently being played. The weather has not been kind to us so we are a bit behind on our games. We hope to get caught up when the weather improves.

There are a number of kits which have not been returned to the school. Please check your child’s gear bag and return any kits to the school.

School Supplies: Please ensure that your child has all school supplies needed. Dictionaries for the higher classes, pens, pencils & colours. Pencil cases should be checked for items that need to be replaced on a weekly basis.

Primary Language In-service: The school will be closed at 12.15pm on Thursday 19th March to facilitate a primary language in-service training session

World Book Day Thursday 5th March: Children are encouraged to dress up as any character from a book, especially their favourite book. If possible could they bring in the book from which the character is from? Children may also bring in a book so they may swap for a different book from another child.

Your child will receive a €1.50 book token. This may be used off books in the Setanta catalogue, or any local book shop, on books costing €4.00 or more. The token can also be exchanged for a number of free books in Canny & Doherty Super Valu.

Book Rental: There are still a number of families yet to pay book rental. It is of great importance for the running of the school that each family pays.

Seachtain na Gaeilge: Seachtain na Gaeilge will take place 9th – 13th March 2020. Children will take part in a number of activities to promote the Irish language and culture. It would be helpful if you could use a cuplá focail at home!

Email address: Please note the change of school email. If you wish to contact the school through email please use glenmakeens@gmail.com as the eircom.net will cease to exist after 31st March 2020.

Thanks from the Parents Committee: The parents committee would like to thank all the parents and family members who supported and helped out in the Good as New shop before Christmas. The shop was very successful and raised just under €4000.

Your ongoing support for the 50/50, the Facebook draw (held before Christmas) is very much appreciated. Keep an eye out for further events and fundraisers. Thank you.

GAA Training: The GAA are calling on all boys and girls born in 2012 and 2013 to join the Carndonagh U8 Gaelic group. Training is on Tuesday evenings between 6 and 7pm and on Saturday mornings. Check the Carndonagh GAA Facebook page or contact Jenny at 087 9618946 for more information.

Food Dudes: The children will take part in the Food Dudes programme. Children will be encouraged to try new fruit and vegetables each day, and to have them as part of their lunch daily

Tree Planting: Over the next few weeks a number of trees will be removed from the school grounds. Unfortunately these trees or large parts of them have died and have become a health and safety risk to the children and passing traffic. Fortunately to celebrate National Tree Week, Forest of Carndonagh (Eco Carn), has kindly offered to facilitate the planting of trees (donated by Crann) in our school grounds.

In order to raise awareness, and for a more hands-on experience for our students, we have decided to make this a parent & child event - the parent may be another designated adult family member / friend. Experience of planting is not necessary – the only requirement is a spade! The event will take place on 24th March 2020, with a time to be confirmed closed to the date.

If you are interested, please complete and return ASAP the following information by email to glenmakeens@gmail.com or by note to office with the following information:

Aldi Rugby Stickers: The school is currently collecting rugby stickers from Aldi. To be in with a chance of winning €50,000 sports grant the poster must be filled with stickers. We would ask anybody from the locality who may shop in Aldi to leave the stickers that they may receive from their shop to the school.
