Lunches and Homework

Lunches

All children are provided with a free lunch which consists of a choice of sandwich, a drink, a piece of fruit or a yoghurt with a treat on Friday. We ask for your co-operation in keeping junk food out of the classroom.

Homework

The school acknowledges the value of homework because:

1. It helps the children develop the habit of study.

2. It enables them to learn how to organise and use free time.

3. It consolidates what is being done in class.

Homework is assigned Monday to Thursday with the children being excused homework on weekends provided that their work has been conscientiously and satisfactorily done on the other nights. Homework is never given on unfamiliar subjects.

Suggested time frame for homework:

    • Infants – 10 mins
    • 1st class – 10 mins
    • 2nd class – 20 mins
    • 3rd class – 30 mins
    • 4th class – 40 mins
    • 5th class – 50 mins

Time spent on homework is relative to your child's age. We would ask that you oversee the homework and sign the diary each night. Your child will gradually become more independent in doing his/her homework. Please contact the teacher if you feel that your child is persistently experiencing difficulties.
